Making Your Website Profitable

To be PROFITABLE, a website must perform TWO VITAL TASKS:

1.  It must be EFFECTIVE - which means getting the RIGHT JOB DONE.

In order to know which job is right, you must first have a carefully prepared plan.  As a minimum, you must always know where you are, where you need to go and how you need to get there.  This may seem obvious, but many companies do not fully grasp this requirement.  You must understand your various markets, your audiences within those markets, their proclivities to buy at various price points, the factors necessary to retain them overtime as repeat buyers and where to find them in the first place.  Finally, you must know how to sell, deliver and provide customer service inexpensively.  All of these factors, and many more, must be carefully addressed before the website construction begins.  Otherwise, you are building a hobby, not a business.

2.  It must be EFFICIENT - which means getting the JOB DONE RIGHT.

This means much more than building a fully functional, Social Media-enabled site, with corresponding Twitter and Facebook accounts.  It means more than making the site compelling, market-driven, professional, economical to build, transactional and multilingual.  It means to build the site as the economic center of your online business.  It means concentrating on the site’s scalability and productivity ratios.  It means dividing your sales by the number of employees you must maintain to succeed, and being satisfied long-term with that number.
